CATL Announces Its MTB Tech to be Applied to Battery-swapping Heavy Trucks
CHINA(chinatrucks):On September 17, CATL announced that its pioneering MTB (Module to Bracket) technology will firstly be applied in the NDT Qiyuan Core Power heavy truck battery-swapping project.http://www.chinatrucks.com
According to the introduction, MTB technology integrates the module directly into the vehicle bracket/chassis, which results in a 40% increase in system volume utilization, a 10% weight reduction, and a system energy density of 170Wh/kg. At the same time, the battery can achieve a cycle life of 10,000 cycles/10 years, which double times longer than the life of its similar products.
NDT Qiyuan Core Power is the industry’s prominent enterprise to supply battery-swapping products for nearly 30 automobile manufacturers and hold a market share of over 80%. CATL started to hold 10% shares of Qiyuan Core Power in February this year, making it the fifth largest shareholder.
In addition, the technology adopts modular design and allows free combination of solutions with configurations ranging from 140KWh to 600KWh, to meet the differentiated demands from multiple truck manufacturers in the market. With the MTB technology, the architecture is designed to be low frame, which lowers the gravity center of the whole vehicle by 21%. And modules and systems are performed double seals. With the IP69K high level protection to protect the safety of the battery cell, it can handle ANY harsh environments with ease.

According to CATL, up to now, 9 out of every 10 heavy trucks or construction machinery in the world are equipped with CATL batteries.
The sales volume of battery-swapping heavy trucks reached 4,887 units in the first six months of 2022, up 1,183% year-on-year. CATL has a high market share across its portfolio in the heavy-duty truck segment, which will bring advantages for CATL to establish battery swapping standards.
