www.chinatrucks.com: Kenworth has announced it is now offering glider kits for its T660, T800 and W900L models.
The kits can be mated with EPA04 engines and matching transmissions and spec’d directly from Kenworth.
The company says it’s seeing renewed interest in glider kits, with the rising costs of new trucks.
“Gliders are a great alternative for fleets and owner/operators with the tools and service technicians to bring a solid and existing powertrain back to life in a ‘brand new truck’,” said Alan Fennimore, Kenworth vocational marketing manager. “We’ve talked with several fleets that plan to purchase gliders and have their service technicians work on the conversions during slow or off periods. It can be an effective use of shop hours.”
Glider models will feature the latest offerings in each of the three models that are available, Kenworth announced. Customers will need to supply certain components themselves - including electrical harnesses, power steering pumps, batteries and air cleaners - which will also be available for purchase through Paccar Parts.
The company says the gliders will be available both as rolling and non-rolling (absent of driveline, axles, suspensions, wheels, tires and other rolling equipment) vehicles.
