BYD Delivers the Largest Pure Electric Logistics Truck Fleet in Latin America
MEXICO CITY, MEXICO (12/15/2021) – BYD Mexico delivered 20 21-ton electric heavy-duty trucks to the Mexican beer company Grupo Modelo. This is the largest pure electric logistics truck fleet in Latin America.
The truck features BYD’s industry-leading lithium iron phosphate battery. With its excellent control system and innovative functions, the heavy-duty vehicle can carry out zero-emission distribution services throughout urban areas.
A ceremony for the delivery was held with a guest list that included Andrés Lajous, Secretary of Mobility of Mexico City; Rodrigo Albuquerque, Executive Director of Logistics of Grupo Modelo; Cristian Benes, Director of Logistics Purchasing of AB InBev; Leonardo Gómez, President of Mexican Private Transportation Association; Zou Zhou, Country Manager of BYD Mexico; and Julian Villarroel, Vice President of Corporate Fleet Sales of BYD Mexico.
Rodrigo Albuquerque, Executive Director of Logistics of Grupo Modelo, said, “We hope for an electric logistics truck fleet consisting of 500 trucks in the next two years. By 2022, we will have another order for 30 electric trucks and 20 electric forklifts. Purchasing the electric heavy-duty trucks from BYD is part of our strategy. We also became the first company to possess a 100% electric heavy-duty fleet in Mexico. Compared with diesel trucks, electric trucks can greatly reduce carbon emissions and benefit the environment.”
Zou Zhou, Country Manager of BYD Mexico, indicated, “Mexico has considerable advantages in traditional automobile manufacturing. BYD is going to launch about 200 electric trucks in Mexico in 2022. The 20 trucks delivered this time represent the largest electric logistics truck fleet in Latin America, successfully filling the new energy logistics gap in Mexico by bringing green power to the local logistics and transportation industry. It is also consistent with the sustainable concepts proposed by the Mexican transportation industry.”
Andrés Lajous, Secretary of Mobility of Mexico City, commented, “Generally, the blind spots of trucks are large, and it is easy for the drivers to ignore the traffic conditions, which leads to a relatively high rate of traffic accidents. This electric truck, equipped with an intelligent monitoring system, can detect the vehicle’s driving conditions and provide real-time feedback to the information desk, greatly improving driving safety.
BYD also delivered electric forklifts to Grupo Modelo. Julian Villarroel, Vice President of Corporate Fleet Sales of BYD Mexico, said, “As the pioneer of integrated new energy solutions, BYD is honored to participate in the sustainable development strategy of Grupo Modelo and make joint efforts to construct an electric logistics park. Grupo Modelo ordered another 20 electric trucks from BYD. These electric trucks will also be put into operation, promoting the electric transportation logistics chain in the company.”
BYD will continue devoting itself to the development of new energy transportation solutions with its advanced technologies, accelerating the electrification of logistic transportation in Mexico.
