The 2012 Volvo Trucks Fuelwatch Competition consists of three parts: a written exam, practical operation and fuel consumption results. According to event data, the fuel consumption of the Western China competition ranges between 23 and 25 liters per hundred kilometers. According to contestant Li Gang, his Volvo truck helped him consume 1/3 less fuel than his domestic truck did. This high level of fuel efficiency is significantly helpful for controlling costs and maintaining competitiveness in the context of continuously increasing fuel prices. In the context of increasing high fuel price, every drop shall be counted. Volvo Trucks statistics show that driving behavior is relevant to impacts on fuel consumption by 20% and that poor driving skills can cause a 50% increase in fuel consumption.
The winner, Wang Shaocheng said, “Trough the Fuelwatch Competition, truck drivers can make new friends, communicate with each other, and learn from each other to improve our driving skills. It is a fabulous event that I hope it is orgaznied every year.”
As the Western China region embraces a diversified terrain, it requires higher performance from truck and driving skill. In addition, since the region is rich in resources and thus a significant proportion of transportation involvodes dangerous goods, safe driving skills are of paramount importance. Wang Mouju, a driver transporting heavy goods told us: “the goods I am transporting are worth tens and sometimes hundreds of RMB and I feel safe by driving Volvo truck in these cases. The Volvo truck is very tenacious as it provides strong power when climing uphill and are able to stay steady when going downhill.” It demonstrate the perfect match among vehicle design, engine equipping, reduction ration, braking system, and others factors that enable Volvo Trucks to tailor equip a truck to meet different kinds of customers’ needs.
At Volvo Trucks, Safety has been one of its core values since the establishment of the company and it has been incorporated in every part of its products and services. The company’s world renowned anti-colliasion test, aggressively promoted safety driving training, passive and active safety products and services, all ensure the safety of driver and road, and the safety and effective operations of the company.

In contrast to previous years, this year’s Fuelwatch Competition includes Open Driver Training sessions that are also open to non-Volvo Trucks drivers. The trainings introduce factors that influence fuel-consumption and knowledge and skills on safety and fuel-saving driving. Additionally, any individual can share his or her experiences relevance to fuel-saving in 360che.com to win the the title of Volvo Trucks ”Fuelwatch Ambassador,” and will be awarded a trip to Sweden to visit the global final of The 2012 Volvo Truck Fuelwatch Competition together with the champion of the China competition.
