Russia's largest truck maker Kamaz halts production
The main production line of Russia's largest truck manufacturer Kamaz was stopped last Thursday, RIA Novosti reported. It is due to restart on May 12.
"Kamaz has fulfilled its April orders and suspended the main conveyor until May 12. Other units are to restart on May 4," the plant's representative said. The suppliers would adjust to the new schedule, he added.
Production demand at the plant has dropped drastically due to the financial crisis. According to its press service, Kamaz is fulfilling existing orders only and not generating any extra stock.
Kamaz holds eleventh position among world's heavy trucks makers; it produced 5,150 trucks and assembly kits in the first quarter of this year. Over the same period last year the company produced 13,200 trucks and assembly kits, representing a production drop of 61 percent.
Kamaz also holds eighth position among the world's diesel engines manufacturers.
