www.chinatrucks.com: FAW Group Corporation announced on April 13 that it successfully conducted first open demonstration for Jiefang self-driving truck at Changchun FAW R&D test base. The self-driving truck completed series of trials of recognizing obstacles, changing lanes, accelerating and overtaking under the control of the computer. Jiefang is the first truck in China that passed the driverless test.
General Engineer of FAW Tech Center, Guoliqun, shows how the self-driving truck work to industry's leading media representatives and FAW’s global partners while pointing out that it was fully self-developed by FAW. Following that, the two leading actors, Jiefang J7 tractor and J6 dumper, come to stage to do a set of complex operation automatically including traffic light recognition, pedestrian collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, automatic loading and unloading and remote control despite their huge size.
Jiefang self-driving truck has the intelligent functions of recognizing traffic lights and obstacles, overtaking and following other cars, adopting remote commands. JAW Jiefang release its “Zhitu” strategy for commercial vehicle when the self-driving demonstration comes to an end. It says the plan to develop intelligent truck will be completed in three phases from 2017 to 2025. By the end of 2025, their ultimate goal of full self-driving and open-source platform for the entire truck industry will be reached, and thus advancing the industry.
It is reported that the “Zhitu” platform developed by FAW is an unified technology platform supported by five platforms including a platform with a design based on “Internet+”, manufacturing and service, a platform which integrates energy saving, new energy powertrain, chassis and electronics, an embedded software tech platform for vehicle and electrics control, a mobile tech platform for vehicle intelligence and an information tech platform of D-Partner+.
During the demonstration, JAW also signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Baidu, Hirain, Ericsson, China mobile, Bosh, Continental, ZF, and Optimum Nano respectively to carry out extensive cooperation in areas like commercial vehicle development, core tech research and vehicle marketing.
